  • What we do : Action For Kids has helped to transform the lives of young people with physical and learning disabilities for over 20 years. This is through the provision of mobility equipment and Work Related Learning programmes designed for our young people, moving them towards independence.
    • Wheelchairs & Mobility Equipment : Wheelchairs & Mobility Equipment, At Action For Kids we believe mobility equipment is one of the great enablers for young people with disabilities. We provide young people up to the age of 26 with mobility equipment not available on the NHS.
      • Guidelines for grant applicants : We welcome grant applications from any child or young person suffering from any physical or mental condition that requires a mobility or communication aid, or specialised mobility and therapeutic equipment.       • Equipment maintenance and aftercare : Action For Kids may be able to help you maintain equipment, even if the equipement belongs to you.
    • Family Support : Action For Kids recognises that there is very little support available to parents of disabled children and we strive to provide practical and emotional support to families using our services.
    • Work Related Learning : Work Related Learning, Disabled young people come to Action For Kids to take part in our Work Related Learning Programme where they do real work in our office and the community - such as processing our raffle and other essential office work.
      • Accredited Learning : Action For Kids is accredited by exam board AQA to offer formal training to young people with disabilities. We deliver AQA Unit Award Scheme courses to the young people to help their independent living skills, including areas such as money management, domestic skills and food management, transport or looking after yourself.
      • Holiday Programme : The Inspire Mark awarded Holiday Programme is an innovative school holiday activity programme designed to get young disabled people active and stimulated, to develop skills and confidence. We have also been granted the Inspire Mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme, in recognition of our Multi Activity School Holiday Programme.
      • Short Breaks : Action for Kids provides a Short Breaks programme during school holidays for young people with learning disabilities aged 14-18 from the London boroughs Barnet, Haringey, Islington. Each programme is different and young people can choose from a menu of activities. Take a look at our video.
    • Towards Independence – Becoming Independent : Disabled youngsters want the same things as all young people - peer friendships, to be treated as young adults, going out, control over their lives and looking forward to living as independent adults one day. Towards Independence facilitates this.
    • Community Living : Community Living helps disabled children to develop as individuals while being safe and secure at home and in their community. Our charity encourages them to exercise their rights by using services such as libraries, doctors' surgeries and sports facilities.
    • Getting Young Disabled People Involved : Young people with disabilities face a number of obstacles other than mobility. They lack opportunities for work and training and have little autonomy. We get young disabled people involved in many ways including our Young People's Forum.

  • About us : Action For Kids is a charity that helps young people with physical and learning disabilities across the country find greater levels of independence and opportunity through the provision of mobility aids, employability training and family support.
    • Action For Kids - our history : Action For Kids was set up in 1991 after Sally Bishop started raising funds for a young boy who needed a wheelchair, which the NHS was unable to provide. We moved into our own building – Ability House in North London - in 2006.
    • Objects of the charity : Action For Kids provide relief for children and young people who are suffering from sickness or physical or mental disability by assisting them to lead full and independent lives, We also provide support and assistance to their carers.
    • Our Mission, Vision & Values : Action For Kids’ vision is a world where all disabled young people and their families receive the support and advice they need, when they need it, for as long as they need it. Our mission is to help physically and mentally disabled children and young people find greater levels of independence and opportunity through the provision of appropriate aid and support and our values are based on friendliness, approachability, personal contact, dedication and openness.

    • Donate via your self-assessment tax return : You can nominate Action For Kids to receive any tax refund you are due from your self-assessment tax return form. The government treats this donation as a Gift Aided donation, meaning that Action For Kids receive an additional 28p in the pound at no extra cost to you.
